Highlights: INSTANT (NUSPS X POLAROID ORIGINALS)
Introduction
Instant: NUSPS X Polaroid Originals was the first ever collaboration between NUSPS and Polaroid Originals in Singapore. Through a series of exciting events, Instant: NUSPS X Polaroid Originals aimed to capture the magic of Polaroid by sharing the invention that found itself as a cultural phenomenon, celebrated for being at the intersection of art and technology.
Day 1: Tour of Polaroid Exhibition @ National Museum of Singapore
On the first day of the event, NUSPS organised a tour of the Polaroid exhibition currently hosted at the National Museum of Singapore, In an Instant: Polaroid at the Intersection of Art and Technology. Participants were given a guided tour by the museum docent who shared the story of how Polaroid was conceived by Dr Edwin Land to eventually become the cultural phenomenon it is today.
Day 2: Instant: NUSPS X Polaroid Originals @ *SCAPE HubQuarters
On the second day of the event, NUSPS organised a talk and a workshop where participants could learn about instant film photography and try Polaroid cameras. Participants who attended included our NUSPS members as well as students from other Singapore varsities, NTU and SMU. Representatives from local photographic communities such as The Film Initiative were present as well.
Experiences in Instant Film
Guest Speakers: Damian & Sandra (@damianwithsandra)
The first item was a talk given by Damian and Sandra, local passionate users of instant film who are well-known for using modified cameras to shoot instant film in new and innovative ways.
Polaroid Workshop
Guest Speaker: Brandon Ong (@okb_polaroidstore)
The second item was the Polaroid Workshop conducted by Mr Brandon Ong, an avid collector and user of Polaroid cameras who has been passionate about sharing the medium with other people. Since 2013, he has amassed about 70 instant cameras that span the history of Polaroid. In this workshop, he led a hands-on session where participants tried a collection of Polaroid cameras which included his own vintage models and Polaroid OneStep 2 on loan from Polaroid Originals.
Following the workshop, the participants were able to get a hands-on experience with the Polaroid cameras through a photowalk conducted around the Somerset area. The photowalk is guided by our guest speakers as well as our NUSPS committee members!

After the photo walk, a photo review session and competition was conducted where the participants uploaded their best photos to Instagram with the hashtags #polaroidoriginals and #nuspsxpolaroid accordingly. Our speakers then offered their feedback and explained how to better improve the photos. You can view the hashtag feeds by clicking on the hashtags above.
Using the Polaroid Originals mobile app, participants are able to scan their Polaroid shots to obtain a digital copy. How convenient!
